This time we did have a phone. But after being used to a cordless phone, being tied to the wall seems pretty inconvenient. Because we had a phone line, we ran a small generator to power the internet connection and run our business!
When tired of playing outside, the kids resorted to couch forts and other creative play!
And when your snow clothes are too wet to play in anymore, you hang them by the fire to dry. Then you beg Daddy to read to you by the light of an oil lamp. You can see where the warm spot in the house was!
So after being without power for 7 out of 10 days, power outs have lost their novelty for me. Trying to make meals on the stovetop, worrying about defrosting freezers, watching my to do list grow with no hope of checking anything off because the items all require electricity, getting cabin fever, etc. We burned through nearly a gallon of lamp oil in those 7 days, and to borrow a generator from the fire dept. to run our deep freeze, and had to get really creative in how to clean out the kitchen sink since the garbage disposal couldn't clean it out! All in all, I was very, very happy when the lights finally came back on. And I have been very, very happy that the last few storms have brought us only rain. I've had enough snow for a little while!
